Dignity & Respect:
Dignity and respect go hand in hand and may perhaps be the most fundamental among all moral values. At its most basic, the idea of human dignity and respect is the conviction that each person has a special value derived only from their humanity. Their class, religion, ethnicity, gender, political views or any other discriminatory factors has nothing to do with it. All people deserve respect simply for being human.
Truth & Honesty:
Cultivating and practicing these moral values play a big role in building and sustaining healthy human relationships and societies, where children and adults have room to grow and thrive. Honesty and truthfulness not only promote a positive and virtuous attributes including reliability, acceptance, sincerity, but also work against self-deception, hypocrisy and other forms of wrongdoing.
Justice, Fairness & Equality:
When conflicts of social justice such as, when people differ over how burdens and benefits should be shared among individuals, arise in a society, the need for justice and fair standards becomes inevitable to develop social stability and a sense of belonging among community members. Without any doubt, every person is entitled to equal worth just by virtue of being human.
Unity with nature & protecting the environment:
The protection of our environment has become an urgent moral obligation, now more than ever, as most of the environmental degradation originates from human activities. Apart from us, plants, animals and other living creatures are also a part of society and we rely on them for our health and wellbeing. Therefore, living in harmony with nature is the only way to minimize the threat to human development in upcoming years.
Freedom, Independence & Peace:
In order to understand the significance of human rights, it must be recognised that every individual has the independence to be the captain of their life by choosing freely a lifestyle best suited for them. It also means freedom from discrimination, racism, judgment and much more. As a result, the main characteristics of a civilised society, peace and tolerance, will prevail among people and communities.
Love & Care:
Love and affection are the ultimate basis of all human values as it paves way for positive human emotions like compassion, humility and tolerance, and push us to become the best version of ourselves. Caring for neighbours, respecting other’s views and ideas, charity are just some of the forms of love to make our surroundings better.
